A five-inch dangler built in three parts: a knotted spiral at the top, a silver rod across the middle, and an eight-petalled cavandoli flower below it, finished with crystal beads.
Cavandoli is counted knotting — one knot type, worked over a cord of another colour, with the pattern made by counting rather than by improvising. The flower here matches the eight-petalled one engraved on the silver rod, which is why it has to be counted exactly. Thirty metres of cord and six hours per pair.
The spiral is joined to the rod with macrame rather than findings, which is the sturdier join; the flower hangs on jump rings so it swings. Thirty-one grams — the heaviest earring I make, and still well under a metal pair this size.
